Never pay a company to submit your website to search engines. It’s a waste of time.
First, search engines will find your web pages through other websites that link to yours. So a better option is to get links on other, related websites. You can submit to free online directories, too, to speed the process along.
Another easy way to get links to your website is to create Squidoo pages on related topics that link to your website. Squidoo ranks quite highly in Google searches, so Google will find your website quickly.
To get noticed by Google sooner, submit a sitemap to Google. This is far more effective than simply submitting your URL.
What you really want is to perform Search Engine Optimization on your webpages in order to maximize the traffic you get from search engines. There are companies that will do that, but in my opinion it’s best to learn how to do it yourself. That way, even if you hire a company to do it, you know if what they’re doing is reasonable.
If a company states a fee to submit your site to 10000′s of search engines and directories, run, run fats. It may be cheap, as it is nothing but an automated program, but it will not do you any good except send you lots of spam.
Today’s search engines will find you with out a hand submission. And, the use of site-maps, XML site-maps and submission to Google site-maps and Yahoo site-maps allows them to be notified of all your site pages.
Should you wish to hand submit to the top engines, most will ask for human verification by placing in a code, this alleviates those automatic programs from working.
As far as Directories, you should submit to DMOZ which is free but dependent upon the human editor and then Yahoo Directory which is $299 to review and then the same fee to be listed each year.
Also note, the search engines can index anything now. But, that does not mean you will achieve top rankings and be found by searches. That is a totally different process known as SEO, which optimizes your web site so that it can achieve top placements….in time.
