Rainmakers and Branding

by Rikki Dee

Rain- That’s been the forecast here in New York for what feels like an eternity or at least the last bunch of months or so anyway! Let me ask you, at what point did Seattle and the North East Coast make a switch and I was left in the dark?

Being that rain was the lead topic of discussion for most of us of us in this part of the States at the beginning of the summer, it does bring to mind a lesson on Branding I picked up from one Dr. Ben Mack which occurred last year.

I will make a great effort to uncover some of the most important parts provided at this very informative presentation over the next ensuing articles so stay tuned or check out my blog for updates. The lecture included topics such as: 1) How to Make the Lightning, 2) Keeping the Lightning Striking and 3) How to Bottle your Lightning.

In case your not familiar who Bejamin Mack is, he is one of the chief authorities on Branding currently in the USA. He is considered legendary in certain Ad agency circles for this work. Over the years Ben has held positions at some of the best advertizing agencies aorund and was a Vice President for Brand strategy for a major corporation.

Mainly what that meant was he was a strategist in charge of a ” Billion dollar budget (yes, I said ” BILLION or 500 Million dollar account!). Do you think he knows what he is talking about? I certainly do, and not only has he performed magic for the businesses he worked for, he is also a Professional Magician who at age 19 was the youngest beneficiary of the Award of Merit presented by the Academy of Magical Arts.

Do you know what a Rainmaker is? Do you want to become one? A rainmaker aside from the apparent implication of a Medicine Man who using magic makes it rain, is a person with the outstanding knack to be a magnet for customers, exploit (in a good way) political associations, and bottom line, make the corporation a great deal of money. However, when it rains the lightning isnt far behind! We will get more into that in a bit.

As an internet Marketer your chief duty is to “up sell” individuals on their perception of reality. In Ben Macks book “Think Two Products Ahead” he speaks of how effective branding only occurs when companies think two products ahead rather then thinking in just the here and now and for them to assemble a prosperous relationship with their clients by means of their Brand The section in the book where Ben talks about creating your Legend Platform is just fantastic!

Your “Brand” (the one called YOU!) is built around the concept of a “legend” or story and in the log run get stronger with the passing time. These stories or tales can and should be allowed to be at odds to each other. So, if you had to single out what type of story you should use to make your business sparkle like a diamond (you are reading articles like these to do so correct?) why not have them be legends. How else will you become “Legendary” in your chosen field without them?
